Joseph Conrad’s “Amy Foster”
From the author of Heart of Darkness, Nostromo, Lord Jim, and The Secret Agent, the short story “Amy Foster” offers an intriguing Odyssean story that revisits questions across the Lit. Trad. sequence. Following the plight of Yanko, a Carpathian man shipwrecked on the coast of England, the story invites discussion of friends and strangers, hospitality and fear, nature and culture, the barriers of language and the importance of story-telling.
